False Dawn

Though I’m awake her face is still a dream,
A golden glow behind each scene I see,
Her kiss-wet lips and love-deep eyes that seem
To offer me a silent ecstasy.
On Autumn days, while rain is in the air,
I sit with her beneath a summer sky;
Two beating hearts forever seem to share
An inability to say goodbye.
Tomorrow’s dawn will see her by my side,
Its silver light will greet our sweet embrace.
The World will pause and time will be denied.
When I can see my future in her face.
So I shall sleep despite the beating drums
That tell my soul “Tomorrow Never Comes”
