She fell in love, that day in May,
A deed that starts each one act play.
Though she still cried it’s not the same
When love and joy are held to blame.
And so in love she vowed to stay.

It can be hard to play the game,
Through all the years of doubt and fame,
But when her life blocked off the way
She fell in love.

Six men in turn were turned to grey,
When soft green eyes led them to stray,
But who would wish a life that’s tame
And day on day can seem the same?
They could not blame their girl so fey –
She fell in love!

Author notes
A rondeau written entirely in single syllable words (I can’t think of a way to
build that phrase in words which each have just one sound)
