Final parting

You left me with a rose and went away.
I’m here without a heart to call my own,
One thousand years I wanted you to stay.
Instead of that I’ll live my life alone.
You kissed my lips an hour or more ago,
I have not moved a muscle in that time.
The tears upon my cheeks must surely show,
Yet I can’t tell the world about your crime.
The year I was beside you passed so fast;
I woke each day to see a golden dawn.
The love I felt was surely built to last
And now you’ve torn it down with words of scorn.
Although I know we lived a year of lies
I cannot see a life without your eyes.
