For all my friends

I’ve curled myself inside my restless mind
To read the verse of poets I admire
I’ll dig for all the treasures I can find
Inside their tales of madness and desire
Some poets on my list I know as friends
And some are just the names that wrote the lines
I need to know them all to make amends
So I can tell them all their writing shines
And now my mind uncurls so I can write
To tell the world that I have learned from all
I try to choose my words to spread delight
My muses always answer to my call
I hope you know this tribute is for you
A thank-you for the great things that you do

I hope you know this tribute is for you
My friends and colleagues all across AP
A thank-you for the great things that you do
So you will know how much you mean to me
Each day I know will bring me words to read
And more to learn about the way you live
You write the words that satisfy my need
I’m grateful for the succour that you give
In turn I try to write my heart for you
And hope that I can spread a little joy
I want to show you how to make things new
To give you little tricks you can employ
I think of all of you as family
My distant cousins born of poetry

I think of all of you as family
Your poems often parents to my own
My distant cousins born of poetry
You offered me your genius on loan
I’ve learned some lessons from the best I know
And picked up tips from all of you at times
It doesn’t matter what you put on show
The free-est writes or poems filled with rhymes
And now in sonnet chain I’ve told the tale
Of how I see the magic that you write
I’m happy that I know you’ll never fail
To pull me ever nearer to the light
I’ve curled myself inside my restless mind
I’ll dig for all the treasures I can find
