There are times when I am sure it’s right to fight
There are rights I’m not prepared to give away
But almost every war has been a blight
A clash of fools with far too much to say
The soldiers on each side may be the best
May hold to standards all would want to see
But the best are overshadowed by the rest
There are those who fight to let their beast be free
It matters now that we should understand
That those who fight aren’t those that we should blame
It’s not the troops but all the great and grand
Who shouldn’t stand but hang their heads in shame
For two minutes at eleven stand and think
Of the honest men who saved us at the brink
