Forgotten Youth

Forgotten Youth

When I was young the winters seemed far colder,
The summers hot, the others in between,
But all things change when you start growing older,
We tuck those early photos in their folder,
The snowscapes every Alpine artist’s seen.

When I was young the winters seemed far colder,
Forgotten like a candle in its holder,
Unlit until another halloween.

But all things change when you start growing older
And cracks appear across the silver solder
That seals the pipes we use to keep life clean.

When I was young the winters seemed far colder,
Forgotten tales are reborn bright and bolder,
With nuances unseen by any teen.

But all things change when you start growing older,
Your life has lost the secrets that you told ‘er
No season finds the time to reconvene.

When I was young the winters seemed far colder
But all things change when you start growing older.

A Villanelle but I’ve taken liberties with the stanzas
