Friends Today

A friend is one who’s happy that you’re happy
A friend will smile to know you want to smile
A friend won’t mind on days you’re short and snappy
And cannot see their friendship for a while
A friend is there when no-one seems to need you
A friend won’t mind if you don’t want to talk
I hope sometimes I’ll be the friend to feed you
But wise enough to know when I should walk
Not every one you meet has friend potential
But no-one needs five hundred so called friends
Just one or two you trust should be essential
The rest will always look to their own ends
I think I’ll need a friend or two today
If that’s not you then please, just walk away!
