Getting it Wrong

While drowning in the weight of expectation
And underneath a most enlightened curse
I settled down to pen a delectation
But only pencilled something rather worse
The praises were as heaped as unexpected
For phrases I had never thought to use
When people cheer at lines I’ve introspected
I’m forced to feel that mankind is obtuse
Another day I wrote the way I meant to
A masterpiece the best I’ve ever done
Unwanted by the readers it was sent to
Perhaps I’m not in tune with anyone
So if you’ve got some poetry you hate
Republish it before it gets too late!
