She spoke to him of hate and hurt
He kissed the pain away
The more she tried to disconcert
The more he vowed to stay
He took the words she spat like fire
And turned them into raw desire

His silly comments sliced her heart
She smiled and stayed in love
A larger war can only start
By meeting push with shove
She saw his taunts through loving eyes
And met each thrust with compromise

They’ve been in love for fifty years
And look to many more
Unthinking acts aren’t met with tears
There’s too much to adore
Some days may see them fuss and fight
But they’ll be lovers overnight!
