Happy-sad

The good-times shine far brighter than the bad
And memories are muddled by the years;
Unwillingly you smile away the tears
On days that leave you feeling happy-sad.

You daydream of the best you ever had,
The times when life was made of liquid gold.
You never knew that friends were growing old,
On days that leave you feeling happy-sad.

But misery is sometimes ironclad –
Immune to all the cannon balls you’ve shot,
The ups and downs of life are still your lot,
On days that leave you feeling happy-sad.

The good-times shine far brighter than the bad,
On days that leave you feeling happy-sad.

Author notes
An echo sonnet (there’s a definition in the blurb for the list) written after
attending the funeral of a very special man
