Hard to write

It’s hard to write a poem for your mother
Your mother means so much she’s always there
You can’t treat her like you would treat another
The way you think of Mum is hard to share
Your Mother drove you mad when you were younger
She made you brush your hair and clean your teeth
“If you don’t eat those peas you’ll cause world hunger!”
But she was always “Mum” close underneath
Her Birthday’s here so time to write a sonnet
Go out and choose that special birthday card
But what on Earth should it have written on it?
How can maternal tributes be so hard?
Each year I try to say in poetry
“I love you Mum” and sign it “love from me”
