Hell!

I thought our guide had made a strange mistake
A cricket match with Hobbs and Grace not out
With food and champagne there for all to take
It’s paradise without the slightest doubt.
The scoring mounts, the caviare is free
The weather’s fine, the crowd are well behaved
No suffering around for me to see
Have all the punishments for sin been waived?
Just wait, our guide explains, you’ll understand
We sit and watch the progress of the game
Each batsman picks the bowling from the hand
And every perfect shot is just the same
No flaws at all could be the greatest flaw
In Hell pure paradise becomes a bore.
Author notes
I have no belief in a heaven or a hell, but if I did, I can think of nothing
worse than pure unrelenting perfection. Life is overcoming problems, finding
new answers, change, the chance to be wrong.
I don’t want to be hurt, but if there isn’t any chance of that, where is the
satisfaction?
