Her Nightly Visitor

His footsteps on the landing to her door,
The handle turning underneath his hand,
His shadow stretching out across the floor,
Her heart is beating like a German band.
She feels his breath against her blushing cheek,
The cover moves to let him slide inside;
She lets him know, without the need to speak,
That nothing he desires will be denied.
And since he died he visits her each night,
He never sees the way that she has aged
But family can hear her sweet delight
As long remembered passions are assuaged.
She has no fear of death, for now she knows,
The best in life will never decompose.
