His Tragedy

No easy answer lies in nameless bars
Or chalk-white lines stretched on the table top.
His heartfelt love stampeded to the stars,
A juggernaut that he could never stop.

Another’s arms can comfort for a while,
But cannot grant his half-desired release.
The tenderest (and most expensive) smile,
Will never be enough to bring him peace.

He gave so much but couldn’t understand
The lower price that he could never pay.
He’d never dare to see himself unmanned,
By not demanding things were done his way.

How could she not concede his point of view
And give him all the love that was his due?
