NORWICH

The telegram
puts her life in a spin.
Almost two years of letters
two months of silence
and now six words.
The dress was ready,
was she?
His fingers,
oh! she remembered his fingers,
long and strong
pianists fingers
lovers fingers
his fingers.
Her back tingles
in expectation.
She remembers his lips,
strong masculine,
tasty lips
in a kiss
she cannot forget.
Her breasts remember them too.
She must be calm.
She has put on lipstick for other men,
other times,
other dances
but this is different.
Thousands of miles
to meet her lips
her body
her.
The clock struck seven
as she sat to dress,
now the third quarter
strikes and there is
nothing left but to wait.
They will dance together
until,
unnoticed
they can leave
for the balcony
and she will be his again.
Just as before
when she gave herself
on the night he left for Korea.
The only time she was ever alive,
until tonight
and that knock
on her door …
