I never saw a horse put on a bet
Though many men lose everything they own
On horses who then cater home alone
Or stop half way to try to see the vet
You never see a horse cry with regret
The man he backed is limping round the bends
Is too intent on chatting to his friends
Is worse than any nag he ever met

The racecourse fills with ladies dressed to kill
With men who know their prospects could be great
The racing’s there to add a little thrill
While canopés are eaten from the plate
The horses will be concentrating still
They know the best of them are sure to mate!
