The pillars of the Parthenon look parallel because,
The masons who first made them knew a secret, and that was –
That pillars won’t look straight and tall when seen from wide and far
They won’t appear to be just right,
                                                  unless they are.

Not everything is secret, not all wonders mist the mind,
Sometimes the greatest answers are the easiest to find.
Magician’s hide their actions but most other people do
Exactly what they need to do,
                                          and so do you.

Conspiracies are popular, they sell a lot of books,
But fail to stand the test of the most cursory of looks.
Most science isn’t difficult if you obey this rule
Do not believe all that you’re told,
                                              by some old fool.

So next time someone tells you that a pillar must be bulged,
Don’t think he holds a secret that an ancient god’s divulged.
Pick up a tape and ladder or enlist the help of birds
To measure middle, top and base
then make him eat his words!

Author notes
Someone (someone who is probably very like me!) was shooting his mouth off …
