I Like It Here

I’ve lost myself in England’s wildest places
On windswept fells, in hidden forest glades,
I’ve stood alone In crowded city spaces
Where shopping hoards have swarmed the barricades
I’ve laid at night to stare at constellations
And counted stars too few have ever seen.
I’ve hiked through scenes of ancient excavations,
Where hard hewn stones have donned a gentle green.
Although I’ve walked through other nation’s glories,
I’ve never found a land to rival mine–
Each acre teems with untold rhymes and stories,
Unpainted views all Englishmen should sign.
And when I die my soul will fade away;
Another son returning home to stay.
