Ice-storms

The wind has veered and stolen you away
Now all that’s left to me is icy blast
Your smile was Summer sun on Winter day
But balmy weather’s only in my past
The mercury has fallen like a stone
And Northerlies replace their Western friends
The coldest days are when you’re on your own
All chances seem to meet unlooked for ends
A Winter death leaves nothing in its place
No inner peace to warm a frozen soul
The icy storm is blasting in my face
And every flake exacts a heavy toll
The storms have taken all I ever knew
There’ll never be a thaw now I’ve lost you
