I’ll while away the night

The curtain falls to wash you from my sight
But I may keep the brightness of the day;
In wistful dreams I’ll while away the night.
Awake I find it hard to face my plight,
The morning sun seems half a life away,
The curtain falls to wash you from my sight.
Soon pillowborne my face will show delight,
My eyelids hide the theatre of my play,
In wistful dreams I’ll while away the night.
Such separation seems a dreadful blight,
A source, you’d think, of sadness and dismay.
The curtain falls to wash you from my sight.
Outside my mind the night is at its height
And fears of fools have many things to say.
In wistful dreams I’ll while away the night.
A tale of love that I don’t need to write,
As Cupid sends his own communique.
The curtain falls to wash you from my sight,
In wistful dreams I’ll while away the night.
