I’m Really Sorry But …

I would have come to work today but homework ate my dog,
A lorry ran me over as I took my morning jog,
My mother needed saving and I’ve mastered CPR
I left the house but found my keys were locked inside the car.

I couldn’t catch the train instead we’ve had a dreadful flood,
Disaster’s hit the neighbourhood, so I’m off giving blood,
The doctor says I cannot go, I have bubonic plague,
He’s told me of a treatment but the outlook’s looking vague.

You think that if there is no train I could have tried the bus?
I went to try to catch it but encountered quite a fuss
Three dozen fighting grannies laid a siege I couldn’t breach
I tried so hard, I REALLY tried, but work is not in reach.

I cannot walk or bicycle, I’m feeling rather ill,
Far worse than that my home is at the bottom of a hill.
It’s higher than a mountain, twice as steep as any stairs,
And anyway the surface has been dug up for repairs.

Tomorrow will be better if it’s just the same to you,
I know that I’ll be keen to work with time off to renew,
So please don’t think I’m slacking, in my heart I’m working hard
But actually being there’s a thought I’ll disregard!
