Golden fountain pens
on marble tables
fine words
from bemedalled men
Smiles, opulence
and too many uniforms
Queues for food
as planes bring supplies
of arms
Alone and terrified
they came in the night
Now she is alone.
“Mummy!”
“Daddy!”
Silence.
All she has left,
the memory
of screams
and blood.

Raw and in free verse was the request. Raw enough?
