In my memory

In Debenhams, one Christmas, selling socks and ties
A tiny girl, who giggled, and had lovely soft blue eyes
I asked her to the pictures, she didn’t quite say no
But she never picked the phone up and I never got to go

Strange memories are stirring, I cannot tell you why
But I’m sitting here and smiling, with a rather rueful sigh

Another girl, a party, she’s collapsing in my arms
And I’m pretty sure she’s falling for my awkward teenage charms
But the vision that’s before me, started fading far too quick
Her head was turning sideways she was violently sick

Strange memories are stirring, I cannot tell you why
But I’m sitting here and smiling, with a rather rueful sigh

Young Anna had a bottom, that she always wanted smacked
A smile that promised laughter and the power to attract
It lasted just a few weeks, while she played at every game
But she choose another fellow and I think that was a shame

Strange memories are stirring, I cannot tell you why
But I’m sitting here and smiling, with a rather rueful sigh

Just once when up at Uni, well maybe twice or thrice
A girl who loved her dancing, and who treated me so nice
I made her cakes and dinner, and she made me feel a man
And if you get the offer simply grab it while you can

Strange memories are stirring, I cannot tell you why
But I’m sitting here and smiling, with a rather rueful sigh

Just snippets from a memory, or snatches from my past
I don’t what has started this, but it has been a blast
The ladies I remember, are not her today with me
But I keep them safe and shiny buried in my memory
