Indian Summer

Indian Summer

Last week it seemed that winter winds were almost on the way
But now the summer sun’s back in control
I wished that I was free to walk not work inside today
We wage slaves have to pay a heavy toll
At lunchtime there were ducks and geese and children throwing bread
Before I had to hurry back where problems fill my head

At time to leave there’s work to do no easy time tonight
But on the way I’ll amble through the park
Where flower beds are rainbow hued and bathed in golden light
So what if I’m still working after dark
And then a train that’s not too full not yesterday’s slow hell
I’m heading home for tea and toast, perhaps some wine as well!

I’m in the garden, in a breeze, a summer’s evening treat
The laptop on my knees is working hard
It’s time to gather news of friends put puzzles in retreat
The curse of work is fun to disregard
Now sunset’s getting closer soon the Moon will start to rise
They’re beautiful but cannot match the dreams inside your eyes
