Inner Peace

Now in this life there is no “inner peace” –
As long as we survive we have to strive.
The troubles of the World don’t ever cease
And fighting back is what makes us alive..
Today I felt contentment, in the main,
We spent the day at cricket – Surrey won!
But I saw dreadful headlines from the train
Reality can spike the finest fun.
Inside my mind so many thoughts contest –
My family and friends will make me smile.
While wars and famines drive away the best –
But maybe I’ll find “peace-lite” for a while.
I love this World – the only one we’ve got –
But far too much of it has gone to rot!
