It’s time for the game that the gods have invented
To entertain angels all over the skies
The orderly clash between nations presented
As life and death battle where nobody dies.
The Indians and English are meeting at Lord’s
Deciding the issue without needing swords
It’s time for the Tests, for the essence of cricket
For five days of struggle to see who will win
For batsmen to dance while defending the wicket
For bowlers to test them with pace and with spin
So if I’m “not here” you now know who’s to blame
The gods and the angels who thought up the game!
