The hippo on the mantlepiece
The eagle in the cage
The rabid wolf calls for release
The reason for my rage
Too large for life too tightly wound
Beyond a mortal wit
By jealousy so tightly bound
I find I cannot fit
While hung by strings my inner me
Surveys my foolish pride
All I know I cannot see
I’ll never get inside
It can’t be right to act like this
I ought to love and trust
But green eyed devils fight off bliss
I lost my love to lust
