Last Summer

I woke to find a ferret up my nose.
It wasn’t there when I went up to bed,
This wouldn’t be the lifestyle that I chose,
Who wants to find a polecat in their head?

His mate moved in, and then they built a nest,
I cannot sleep through how they spend their nights,
As weeks go by I’m feeling somewhat stressed
But I’ve been told that they have squatters’ rights!

Their pups were born, assisted by a vet
Who didn’t show the least concern for me.
“You really do not need to fuss and fret
They’ll move out when the pups reach puberty!”

The Spanish Inquisition came to call
Compared to ferrets caused no fuss at all!
