Lazy Dreams of Love

That abandoned summer evening, making love beside a stream,
We forgot the World has worries and embarked upon a dream.
In the hazy lazy sunlight while my fingers combed your hair
We watched swallows, swifts and martins sifting insects from the air
From the moment you first kissed me I lost contact with the ground
And I felt the sky get lighter as anxieties unwound
While the buttercups were waving and the poppies bobbed their heads
There were families of mallards sailing stately to their beds
Heard the breeze that played the branches to accompany the birds
Who were singing songs of loving without needing any words.
Watched the daylight as it reddened and the blue turned into night
We were still too lost to search for what remained of summer’s light
Without breaking from our loving without parting by a hair
We stood up to wander homewards and a future we could share
Filled with sweet romantic evenings making love beside a stream
And those long and cosy night-times when all lovers live to dream
