She sits alone beside the lazy stream
Remembering his lips two years ago.
A leather notebook holds a lover’s dream
And willow leaves meander to and fro.
In flowing loops her pen describes the life
He promised with each urgent, answered, kiss.
She writes herself as mother and as wife
Not left enduring solitude like this.
The question on the phone was rather strange
But in her eyes the years were put away.
A box of books exchanged for pocket change
Has led him to return her heart today.
Three years of work, and teasing from his friends,
But now he knows the way her story ends.
