Lifting the veil

I could not know that I was almost blind
I never saw the beauty of the world
You touched my soul and opened up my mind
And found a me that I’d kept tightly furled
The meals I ate were nice enough, but bland
But now I know the savour of a spice
You showed me that a man must understand
Nutrition on its own does not suffice
If you should leave I know the world would die
The sun can only shine when you are near
You paint the flowers and teach the birds to fly
The rest of life is such a thin veneer
Before we met the world was dressed in grey
But now I see new colours every day
