Lonely love

Sitting silent
as so often before
he bides his time.

Mrs Davies calls her kitty,
Oswald and Satan are let out
for a last run.
David kisses Jenny by her gate
and Jenny kisses David too.
One by one lights along the street
move upstairs
and go out.

While he waits
and waits.

It’s four before the taxi turns up
and an angel strides purposefully
to the door.

She doesn’t know,
she’ll never know,
but tomorrow
he will wait again.
