Looking Back and Loving

Down a lane that lies forgotten
Near a sleepy country town
By a stile now sad and rotten
I first wore your shining crown
On that footpath where we wandered
Past a long abandoned mill
Lies the love that I once squandered
On the girl who owns it still
There’s a stream between two ridges
And a field of scattered flowers
On the rails of two old bridges
We once whiled away our hours
There you told me you would need me
Till the sun gave up her task
Then you breathed the word that freed me
And I never had to ask …

Author notes
I wish I could paint, I think this would make a good watercolour
