Magpie Madness

The guinea pigs were sitting in the garden,
Inside their run that sits out on the grass.
A magpie seemed to say, “I beg your pardon,
You’re in the way, please move I want to pass.”
The guinea pigs were not the least bit worried,
They carried on the way they always do,
They saw no reason lunchtime should be hurried,
However many birds may make a queue.
The magpie hopped and quickly grew indignant —
He clearly felt he had the right of way.
His gestures seemed increasingly malignant,
“How dare these cavies say they’re gonna stay!”
It took a while before he understood,
You can’t out-sit a run of wire and wood!
Author notes
It was really very amusing, he hopped up to the wire, peered in, hopped away,
tried all different speeds, spreading his wings and even squawking, but the
guinea pigs just kept on eating!
