Mending Dreams By Moonlight

When she stormed out of the kitchen she knew love was at an end,
He had been her childhood sweetheart and, she thought, a lifelong friend.
But now everything was over in a blazing pointless row
All their past and shining future ripped apart by here and now.
He was lost and far past caring, white hot tears spilled from his eyes,
Why must living be so painful why must love wear such disguise?
She had always seemed so perfect, she was all he’d ever need,
She was drink when he was thirsty, she was food to fill his greed.
So he wandered without thinking, only seeing black despair
But on nights of moonlit magic other forces fill the air.
She had never found it easy understanding human ways –
And her powers were weak and hazy in the blazing heat of days.
But she’d sensed impending crisis and knew how to set it right
She was never lost or beaten on a soft sweet summer’s night.
Our two lovers slowly wandered in a wood they’d thought they knew
And they found new dreams were dancing in a breeze that hardly blew.
Through a clearing where a table seemed impervious to age
And where many other stories took their turns on centre stage.
Stupid rows will be forgiven, foolish arguments resign,
When true love combines with passion, and the Moon pours down her wine.

I haven’t returned to the World where the Moon pours white wine for a long
time. It seems the goddess of love still works her magic there.
