When you met me at the airport there was laughter in your eyes
And you wrapped me up in kisses and you filled my heart with sighs.
When you took me round your city and you showed me where you live,
You gave me the greatest present and you’re such a lot to give.

          These aren’t memories but wishes,
          Merely hopes and might-have-beens,
You’re a menu full of dishes
And a theatre full of scenes.

When we danced across the oceans, found a lonely desert isle,
When you showed me all the secrets to a life of grace and style,
I was lost inside your beauty and the sights you longed to see
And we walked a million byways in the land of you and me.

          These aren’t memories but wishes,
          Merely hopes and might-have-beens,
You’re a menu full of dishes
And a theatre full of scenes.

We were seagulls riding thermals, soaring higher than the clouds
And were just two hopeful no-ones lost in rushing city crowds.
We held hands to watch the sunset, and let go just after dawn;
You’ve been in my heart forever since the day that I was born.

          These aren’t memories but wishes,
          Merely hopes and might-have-beens,
You’re a menu full of dishes
And a theatre full of scenes.

In our futures we’ll go dancing, to an orchestra of love,
We’ll be friends who ride a rainbow as it paints the grey above.
You will hold me as you hold me in the dreams I dream each night,
And the years of only dreaming will have faded out of sight.

          These aren’t memories but wishes,
          Merely hopes and might-have-beens,
You’re a menu full of dishes
And a theatre full of scenes.
