We were dancing through the starlight on a camomile lawn,
There were roses and azaleas on parade.
We had waltzed all through the evening and were dancing still at dawn,
And the band were playing Moonlight Serenade.
In your eyes I saw the the starlight like a string of matching pearls,
And I understood the cunning schemes you laid.
But I breathed a taste of magic through your crop of tousled curls
And the band were playing Moonlight Serenade.
I was putty in your fingers but the mould you chose was mine,
You surrendered to the arguments I made.
On my heart you wrote a contract that we both agreed to sign
And the band were playing Moonlight Serenade.
When the Boogie Woogie bugle woke the sun to start the day,
We were bubbling like fizzy lemonade.
In your arms I found the future and a guide to show the way,
And the band were playing Moonlight Serenade.
Will this dance go on for ever underneath the silver Moon?
Am I king of all the land I’ve now surveyed?
Are the answers to both questions making love all afternoon,
While the band are playing Moonlight Serenade?
