Miss Durinam knows her place
smart and efficient
but with a friendly smile
never one of the boys
nor the girls
but never an outsider.
Second in every morning
first would be too pushy
second last to leave
everything just right.
She is the clip clip clip
of heels on the wooden floor
the passing suit
the face over there.
Conversations stop and
concentration grows
as she passes.
This is her place
her domain
her kingdom
always near the centre
but no-one
least of all Miss Durinam
knows what she does …
