There were breezes through the treetops, there was moonlight in her eyes,
On the night she changed the future there was silver in the skies.
He was starstruck when he met her, when she smiled and won his heart,
While she didn’t share his daydreams, she was captured by his art.
She would tell him over dinner how her lovers made her feel,
Though he wished he was amongst them it was friendship that was real.
He was always in her background when she lost another round,
When she wanted to feel needed he was who she always found.
Yes she loved him, really loved him, but he wasn’t in her mind
When she wanted more than friendship, more than generous and kind.

There were breezes through the treetops, there was moonlight in her eyes,
On the night she changed the future there was silver in the skies.
He had taken her for dinner, as he’d done a hundred times
And she’d giggled as she told him of her latest little crimes.
Of the places and occasions when she’d found an extra thrill,
How she’d begged for extra passion not just exercise of skill.
It was easy to be with her and her hand was in his own,
As he walked her to the station, so she wouldn’t be alone.
Yes she loved him, really loved him but he wasn’t in her mind,
When she wanted more than friendship, more than generous and kind.

There were breezes through the treetops, there was moonlight in her eyes,
On the night she changed the future there was silver in the skies.
On the platform she drew closer as a teasing wind took hold
And her coat was more for fashion than for keeping out the cold.
She had always held him tightly as she kissed his cheek goodbye
And she looked a little soulful seeing love-songs in each eye.
When the train stopped at the platform there was just a final squeeze,
While their lips were brushed together in a friendly little tease.
Yes she loved him, really loved him but he wasn’t in her mind,
When she wanted more than friendship, more than generous and kind.

There were breezes through the treetops, there was moonlight in her eyes,
On the night she changed the future there was silver in the skies.
Modern trains have warning bleepers as the doors begin to close,
So he waited till their wailing turned his poetry to prose.
When the sound of wheels complaining at the harsh unyielding steel
Would condemn him to a nightmare where his dreams were never real.
Now tonight the train was leaving but she didn’t go away
From tonight until forever she’s decided she will stay.
Yes she loved him, really loved him and a truth was in her mind,
That she needed more than friendship, more than generous and kind.
