Morning glory

Morning glory

The sunset makes the desert red and gold
And Venus shines to welcome in the night
Then silver lights ignite when they are told
Before the milky way flows into sight

In glory such as this you feel alive
A vast and empty land to set you free
The night has eyes and watches as we drive
Along a road we can’t be sure we see

Each valley in the desert proudly boasts
Of travellers who never walked away
We listen to the moaning of their ghosts
And wait to taste the beauty of the day

The golden light of morning now discloses
An unexpected bed of Texas roses
Author notes
For Tory, to the prompt “a bed of wild roses”
