In Bindybandy on the Sand
A muses conference is planned.
That’s why we poets cannot write
Our inspiration’s out of sight.
It took the bus from Idaho –
To catch the train in Hujambo.
Hot air balloon above the hills
(It swallowed forty air-sick pills)
Then cross the sea by reed canoe
(I wouldn’t go that way, would you?)
To land where all the rhinos rest,
Beside the Bay of Interest.
A bicycle to ford the stream,
Where forty thousand penguins dream,
Then finish off the trek on foot,
To Uttermadness-Cloaked-in-Soot,
The capital, I understand,
Of Bindybandy on the Sand.
Author notes
Bindybandy, as I am sure you all know, is one of the largest glacial islands in
central Africa. It’s lush green deserts can be clearly seen from all the
highest mountains in Kansas.
If you go there for your next holiday, and I’m sure many of you plan to,
remember me to Bert and he’ll buy you a pint …
(not sure what of though)
