My Rose

I thought that you were always mine to hold
To keep beside me through the trials of life
We’d never part until we both grew old
For sixty years we’d live as man and wife
But such a love was never meant to be
When things got tough you could not take the pace
Without you here I never can be free
No other bloom will ever take your place
A perfect rose that wilted in the heat
Your form it seems was just a fine disguise
By any other name you’d smell as sweet
Yet fade away before my very eyes
A virus launched the meanest of attacks
You melted like a rose that’s made from wax

No it isn’t a real story, it is a contest entry, the prompt is the picture.
