My Toys

A Stirling engine working in the kitchen,
A pop-pop boat patrolling in the bath,
My traction engine’s truck awaiting hitchin’
To bring it’s heavy load back up the path.
I also have an indoor helicopter,
A car that drives on ceilings and up walls,
A balsa, rubber-band-powered ornithopter,
As well as two self steering tennis balls.
Although I’d fight to keep my fast computer
And electronic gadgets by the ton.
I can’t foresee a time when I’d dispute a
Barefaced claim that old toys are more fun.
Locked in my heart I hold a secret dream,
An Internet of clockwork mixed with steam!
