Australian beasts are not just rather strange
Their forms defy all fondly held beliefs.
In every habitat across their range,
From sun scorched rocks to storm lashed coral reefs.
Some look like rats but stand two meters tall,
While some are cute and sleep all day in trees.
And here perhaps the strangest beast of all
An Aussie poet wandering at ease.
With sharks and salties ever on the prowl,
And dinosaurs in everything but name,
We humans should be throwing in the towel
Not tackling the fauna at its game.
The only thing of which we can be sure
Is even stranger creatures live next door!
