Not just today

I thought I ought to go and buy a card,
They said tomorrow would be Mother’s day,
And writing something in it can’t be hard,
For Mum there’s always something new to say.
The queues in every shop are out the door —
It seems that other Mums are loved the same.
Two teenage sisters starting up a war
Impressing Mum is clearly not a game!
But I don’t need a card that’s oversized,
I do not need a badge or tinny tune,
The greatest joke that’s ever been devised
Is wrong I’m sending love and not lampoon.
The only thing I need the card to say
Is “I love Mum”, not just on Mother’s day.
