Not Long Ago (For Simon Kusnierz 17th April 1984 -15th June 2012, Peace
at Last)

Not long ago his smiling face
Spread impishness without disgrace.
He knew no fear or reticence
(And very little common sense)
This visitor from outer space.
We never know who’ll win the race
But in the hurly burly chase
His chances seemed to be immense,
Not long ago.
There’s now no child we can embrace,
No rubber bones can help his case.
A tortured soul needs recompense
But life has breached his last defence;
The World was once a better place,
Not long ago.
Author notes
My nephew, has had problems for a long time and finally at the end of last week
they became too much for him and he took his own life, far far too young.
The “rubber bones” reference is to his favourite phrase as a child after some
escapade, when he’d stand back up and dust himself off saying “my made of
wubber”, I can’t really take in that such a bright light will never shine
again.
