November Snow

The wind pulls silver crystals from the trees
Adding sparkle to the carpeting below
A last red rose ignores the early freeze
And the fox can’t understand the drifting snow
Slow moving cars are slipping down the road
Refrozen slush protesting under tyres
A twisted hazel groans beneath the load
Of icicles that shine like frozen fires
November nights should boast a perfect Moon
This year the winters come in far too soon
