November the First

The Autumn Sun still carries Summer’s heat
To chase away the chill that filled the night;
With softly crunching gold beneath my feet
The walk to work can boast a rare delight.
A lunchtime strolls find cobnuts on the tree,
And bacon rolls from “Andy’s Café Van”.
While rabbits in the meadow fail to see
The need for any inconvenient man.
When work is done the sky’s already dark
The lace-veiled Moon will watch me on my way
Down well lit streets, then through the shadowed park
Before I’m home to put away the day.
A bite to eat, accompanied by tea,
And then a drink, a book, and poetry.
