“Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross”
But here is a kitten who’s not got a hoss
She hasn’t got fingers clings on by her toes
I don’t think that this is the way that it goes.

The children were singing as kitty half dozed
But they didn’t mean all the things she supposed
She’s doing her best to meet all of their aims
But cats aren’t equipped for these nursery games

She tried Humpty Dumpty but hadn’t a wall
And no troops of soldiers would come to her call
She played Jack and Jill with a run up the stairs
And tumbling down caught her Mum unawares

A ride in a basket to dust off the sky
Looked rather too tricky the sky’s very high
She’d hadn’t a lamb and did not go school
And hey diddle diddle’s a game for a fool

So that is the reason she’s riding the cock
When all’s been explained it does not seem a shock
So “Pussy cat, pussy cat where have you been?”
“I rode on this hen but there wasn’t a queen!”
