Ode to a Star

Oh tiny star that twinkles in the night
I wonder how it is you come to be
Are you a diamond waiting there for me
And shining in the sun’s refracted light?
I don’t think so that answer is too trite
The sky’s not filled with gemstones floating free
I think that you must be in some degree
A far more distant sun but just as bright

Although I know no magic makes you shine
Your beauty still can fill my mind with awe
To me you’re not a proof of the divine
And so I think perhaps I love you more
Astronomy explains you’re not a sign
But still I gaze and wonder what you’re for
